Information

It is a thousand-year Buddhist temple founded by Monk Ado in the second year of King Nulji of Silla (418) ) and is where Chosun’s second king Jeongjong lie in state and the ambassador Samyeong who revived the nation’s fortunes during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 became a Buddhist. There is also a fun legend that if a person finds a naked statue of Buddha from 1,000 statues in Birojeon, she will give birth to a son. At Jikji Temple, there are Sitting Buddha and the three-story stone pagoda, which are designated as treasures, as well as Samyeong-Gak, Cheonbuljeon and more.
